complex geometry

analyses

The general design for this hotel was made by Rainsford Saunders Design Ltd. The task of Octatube was to analyse the present geometry and optimize it [according to its materialisation and budget] design the detailing and finally producing the facade. Kay and i did the analyses [under supervision of prof. M. Eekhout], in which we researched the possibility of applying cold twisted panels. By analysing the [gaussian] curvature of the geometry we made a map [img. 36.01] of where this kind of materialisation would be desirable and where it could inflict problems or would even be impossible. In fact we created the link between a global design and its materialisation.
